  • First steps

    • Attach your microphone via a mount or shock mount to a stable microphone stand.
    • Connect your microphone with an audio interface or preamp using a 3-pin XLR cable.
    • If you are using a condenser microphone, turn on 48 V phantom power on your audio interface or preamp.

When activating phantom power, a sound can be audible - this is perfectly normal.

You can mute the microphone channel before turning on phantom power to avoid this sound.

  • Record vocals

For vocal recordings, keep a distance between 15-30 cm relative to the microphone (approx. 15 cm).

At this distance, the room acoustics are not overly prominent and you receive a full-sounding and dry vocal recording.

The cardioid polar pattern is the most commonly used polar pattern for vocal recordings.

Use a pop filter to reduce plosives.

Learn why you need a pop filter

  • Always use a pop filter

Always use a pop filter for vocal recording to protect the capsule from excessive moisture.

It will ensure to maintain the longevity of your microphone and retain the high sensitivity of the microphone.

  • Record acoustic guitar

An easy and very common way to record acoustic guitar using only one microphone is to place it 20-30 cm away from the instrument.

Point your microphone towards the area where the neck and body meet and you'll achieve a balanced sound.

  • Maintenance

    • Before switching off the microphone or disconnecting the cables, mute the volume of connected equipment.
    • Do not apply extensive force when disconnecting a cable, always use the connector and don't pull the cable.
    • Microphones that are not in use should not remain on the stand gathering dust or being unnecessarily exposed to humidity. Unmount it from the shock mount and put it into supplied transport bag or similar storage.
    • Do not attempt to modify or fix the microphone as it would void your product warranty.
    • The casing of the microphone can be cleaned easily using a wet cloth.

    • Turn the lid until it matches the cutouts.
    • Insert the XLR cable, connect the microphone, and close the lid.
    • Turn the box upright, and you’re good to go.
    • Reverse the cable and microphone position to build a higher stand.

Oh, and btw, the leaflets inside indicate the recommended distance for vocal recordings.
